Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Engine oil

Checking and changing oil is critical to keep today’s engines running properly and efficiently. Follow manufacturer guidelines for changing the lubricant – generally, every 3,000 miles or three to six months.

Check the oil level with the engine off and the car parked on a level surface. Open the hood, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean with a cloth or paper towel, then return it to the oil reservoir. Take it out again and see whether the level is within the acceptable range marked on the dipstick. If you add oil, don’t overfill, which can damage the engine.

Kia Cerato 4-Door Sedan (2013 Model Year)

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Kia
The US-market 2014 Kia Forte 4-door sedan was unveiled during the recent Los Angeles Motor Show, and now Kia has delivered details on the international version, which is known as Cerato.

Expected to hit the markets outside of the US within the next couple of months, the 2013 Kia Cerato 4-door sedan features longer, lower, wider body, and an extended wheelbase, with the final style given a “dynamic muscularity” label.

The new Cerato 4-door has an all-new bodyshell, as well as upgraded equipment, improved convenience and safety features, and an interior that delivers more space and overall quality.

The 2013 model also comes equipped with an upgraded powertrain that delivers improved performance and fuel economy.

Kia Cerato Design

Included in the new, sleeker design are a cab-forward styling, a coupe-style roofline, concave door contours, and chrome molding that delivers a real touch of elegance and class.

Part of the improved fuel economy comes from the aerodynamic build of the car, which is delivered via surface detailing and airflow-smoothing panels under the vehicle.

The third-generation Cerato has a wheelbase that is 50mm longer than the last version, and is also longer, lower, and wider. The additional wheelbase length makes it the longest in class, with the 421 liters of trunk capacity also a category best.

The interior of the 2013 Kia Cerato gets a sporty new look, with nature’s ebbs and flows used as the motif of the entire design.

The center stack has an elegant looking curve that is emboldened by the carbon-look trim. Soft-touch materials have been added to the dashboard, center door trims, and door armrests.

Driver and passenger comfort is also very much in play with a lowered cabin floor and wider front seat cushions. The angle of the cushions has been increased to deliver better thigh support.

There are some interior color choices to be made, with one-tone black or gray, two-tone cloth or leather, as well as a pair of optional color packs also on offer.

Depending on the model you choose, there will be a number of available options that include 10-way powered and ventilated driver’s seat, heated front and rear seats, leather upholstery, powered glass tilt-and-slide sunroof, Xenon headlamps, smart keyless entry with engine start/stop button, Bluetooth hands-free system with remote controls and dual-zone climate control automatic air-conditioning.

2013 Cerato Suspension, Engine

The suspensions specification on the new Cerato are the same as before, but it has been fine-tuned to deliver a more agile, shock-absorbing driving experience.

The geometry of the suspension has also been upgraded so that drivers will get an improved steering feel.

Under the hood, there will be two fuel-sipping gasoline engines to choose from. The 2,0L Nu four-cylinder engine generates 161-horsepower, while the less-potent 1,6L engine packs 130 horsepower. Six-speed transmission will be available in all Cerato models.

Cerato 5-Door, 2-Door Coupe Release Date

The all-new Kia Cerato (2013) 4-door sedan will be the first to hit the market, but that will soon be followed up by a Cerato 5-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe, both of which are set to arrive to the Kia dealerships in the second half of 2013.

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Power steering fluid

Power steering fluid should be changed every three years or 50,000 miles. If you have a power steering fluid reservoir, check the level visually; otherwise, follow the dipstick method. Low power steering fluid may indicate a leak, so have your mechanic take a look.

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Engine coolant

Replace most engine coolant or antifreeze every 30,000 miles – or every two to three years. Newer formulas, however, may last up to 50,000 miles. To check coolant level, turn the car off and wait for the engine to cool. Locate the coolant reservoir (usually a translucent plastic tank) and eyeball the level of the coolant against the full and low indicators.

Kia Plans 50 New Models by 2016

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Kia
Kia has experienced unprecedented growth in the past few years and it is their goal to continue that surge through 2016 and beyond.

They will attempt to do this by launching 51 new or updated models in the next 5 years, including entering into some new niche markets.

At the top of that list is a brand-new 3-door Pro_cee’d GT Turbo, which is due to arrive next summer. 2014 will see an electric version of the incredibly popular Soul, with a rear wheel drive sports car also on tap for release.
They will also update or make derivatives of current models.

This massive campaign has kicked off last month with the release of the highly-successful Kia Sorento CUV, which includes improved exterior styling, revised interior design and upgraded powertrain technology and suspension.

Europe will also see a number of new vehicles arriving on the scene, starting with the new Pro_cee’d and a 7-seat Carens MPV in the first half of 2013.

Next-generation Kia Soul

The second generation Soul will be out before the end of this year and will make its way to the European market by 2014. The Venga MPV will get its turn once the Soul has been replaced.

It took Kia a couple of years to replace its entire European range, so it will likely be 2015-2016 before they make any further major changes to those models.

Within the next three years, facelifts will be given to the just recently-released K3/Cerato which bears many of the same parts and features as the European Cee’d, while the K7/Cadenza range will receive a major makeover within the same time frame.

New Kia Sedona MPV

Other new Kia vehicles that are expected to make their appearance in the next 5 years include a GT-concept based rear-wheel-drive sedan, a 7-seat people mover (Sedona replacement), a 2-door coupe, and an all-new small crossover vehicle.

We can also expect to see Kia’s first all-electric car for export markets.

The pace of new Kia cars and SUVs hitting the worldwide showroom-floors will be breathtaking. In order to create such a vast number of highly-advanced vehicles, Kia is increasing its research and development budget to $2.5 billion in 2013.

Most of the money will be devoted to the development of new vehicles and improved technologies.

The 6% of sales revenue that Kia Motors Corporation devotes to Research & Development is among the tops of all the car manufactures in the world!

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Headlights and brake lights

With your car turned on and parked, have someone walk around to see that your lights are working – headlights, brake and tail lights, turn signals, etc.

Replacing bulbs in today’s vehicles can be a challenge. Have a mechanic do the job, particularly replacing and aiming headlights. A pro also knows if the problem is a blown fuse, not a burned out bulb.

"What Edmunds Says" - 2013 Kia Sportage Review

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

2013_kia_sportage
What's New for 2013

For 2013, the Kia Sportage returns with a few minor upgrades including standard LED headlamp accents on LX and EX trims.

Introduction

With its head-turning looks and long list of desirable standard features and options, the 2013 Kia Sportage offers an admirable balance of both style and substance. While the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine under the hoods of lower trim levels is merely adequate, the firm standard suspension makes for responsive handling. The sportier SX model raises things to a new level, with its 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and sport-tuned suspension delivering above-average performance.

Despite these admirable qualities, the Sportage does have a couple of notable drawbacks, not the least of which is a ride quality that will undoubtedly be a little too firm for some buyers. The interior is also a bit short on passenger and cargo room compared to several of its competitors.

As such, crossover shoppers focused on practicality might want to compare the Sportage to other, slightly roomier crossovers on the market including the Chevrolet Equinox, 2013 Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Those looking for a similarly sprightly driving experience will want to check out the new 2013 Ford Escape and 2013 Mazda CX-5. Overall, however, the 2013 Kia Sportage is a strong contender in this group thanks to its fun nature and value for the dollar.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2013 Kia Sportage is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. There are a total of four trim levels available, including Base, LX, EX and SX.

Standard features on the base model include 16-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, cloth upholstery, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, cruise control, full power accessories, a tilt-only steering wheel, a trip computer, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and a four-speaker sound system with satellite radio, a CD player, an auxiliary audio input jack and an iPod/USB audio interface.

Stepping up to the Sportage LX adds 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, rear privacy glass and keyless entry. The available Convenience package adds a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a rear spoiler, roof rack side rails, heated outside mirrors, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a rear cargo area cover.

The Sportage EX includes all the goodies in the Convenience package along with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power driver seat, upgraded cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an easier-folding rear seat, the Uvo infotainment system and an upgraded sound system with HD radio, digital music storage and a small touchscreen interface. The SX model adds a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a sport-tuned suspension, keyless entry/ignition, upgraded gauges, leather upholstery and distinctive exterior and interior styling details.

Other options include a Premium package that bundles a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery (standard on SX), heated front seats, a ventilated driver seat, keyless entry/ignition (standard on SX), upgraded gauges and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. A touchscreen navigation system with real-time traffic info is available on all but the base model.

Powertrains and Performance

Power for the 2013 Kia Sportage comes from one of two inline four-cylinder engines. Base, LX and EX models come with a 2.4-liter that puts out 176 hp and 168 pound-feet of torque. Base models are only offered with a six-speed manual transmission, while all other versions come with a six-speed automatic with a manual-shift feature. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive offered as an option on all but the base model.

In Edmunds performance tests, a front-wheel-drive Sportage with the 2.4-liter engine and automatic accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds, an average time for this class. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined with the automatic and front-wheel drive; all-wheel drive drops those numbers to 20/27/23.

The SX model gets a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that puts out an impressive 260 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. In Edmunds testing, it went from zero to 60 mph in a very quick 6.5 seconds. EPA estimated fuel economy is 21/28/24 with front-wheel drive and 20/25/22 with AWD, although we've found the Sportage SX struggles to match these numbers in real-world driving.

Safety

Standard safety features on all 2013 Kia Sportage models include antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control, as well as hill descent and hill start control. Inside are front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.

In Edmunds brake testing, an EX came to a stop from 60 mph in 120 feet -- a better-than-average performance for this type of vehicle. The sport-oriented SX was better at 117 feet. In government crash tests, the Sportage received an overall rating of four stars (out of five) for front-wheel-drive models and five stars for all-wheel-drive versions, plus solid five-star ratings for frontal and side impacts. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, the Sportage received the highest rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side-impact and roof strength tests.

Interior Design and Special Features

Just as the 2013 Kia Sportage's aggressive exterior styling helps it stand out in a crowd, the handsome passenger cabin gives it an edge over several better-known competitors. There's no shortage of hard plastic, but it's nicely textured and there's a good amount of padding where it's needed.

Front seats are comfortable and supportive, with decent head- and legroom. The 60/40-split rear seats are a bit tighter, with room for a couple of smaller adults. The fact that these seats don't slide up and back like those in some competitors is a weakness.

Behind those rear seats is the Sportage's other principal shortcoming, namely its relatively small cargo hold. With just 26.1 cubic feet of cargo room with the seats up and 54.6 with both sections folded down, the interior has roughly 15 cubic feet of space (picture the trunk of a good midsize sedan) less than its larger rivals.

Driving Impressions

The 2013 Kia Sportage isn't exactly sporty, but it is more fun to drive than you might expect from a small crossover. Handling is quite good, a benefit from the firmly tuned suspension. Naturally there's a price to be paid here in the form of a ride quality that can be a tad on the rough side, especially with the SE model's sport suspension and 18-inch wheels.

Acceleration with the 2.4-liter engine is decent enough and the transmission works well in both manual and fully automatic modes. The SE's turbocharged 2.0-liter delivers a healthy dose of acceleration and is a worthy alternative to the V6s found in competing crossovers.

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Brakes and brake fluid

Check to ensure that brake fluid levels are within tolerance. How often you need to replace brake pads or other components depends on how you drive and typical driving conditions. Warning signs of a brake problem include noise, vibration or “grabbing” when you apply the brakes. Working on your brakes is a job probably best left to the professionals.

Redesigned 2013 Kia K7 Sedan

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

2013-kia-k7-cadenza-0
When Kia first announced the facelifted 2013 K7 sedan (named Cadenza in markets outside Korea) at the end of October, we only got a pair of pictures showing the front- and rear-quarters of the mid-size model.

We don't know if the K7 piqued your curiosity, but if it did, we may be able to help as we have a new set of pictures, which this time, include the interior, along with several videos.

Besides incorporating Kia's evolving design DNA on the exterior and in particular, in the front and rear ends of the car, the new images reveal that the Koreans also updated the K7 / Cadenza's cabin that gains a restyled center console with new controls and a…sic…analogue watch positioned in the middle, as well as new instrument gauges.

In its home market of South Korea, the front-wheel drive K7 is offered with a choice of three gasoline units, including a 198hp (201PS) 2.4-liter inline-four, a 266hp (270PS) 3.0-liter V6 and a 290hp (294PS) 3.3-liter V6.

Kia officials have said that the K7 will make it to North America as the Cadenza sometime next year, where it will be positioned above the Optima and in due time, below the Quoris / K9

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Tires

A car tire inflated to 35 pounds per square inch (psi) can lose one psi every month or for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature change, so your car maintenance checklist should include checking tire pressure. Find the recommended level in the owner’s manual or on a sticker on the driver’s side door jamb. And don’t forget the spare.

Rotate tires every 6,000 miles to prevent uneven wear, replace them when they become worn and have the alignment checked if the car pulls to either side when driving or if you notice uneven tire wear.

Kia Debuts Justice League Concepts: 2012 SEMA Show

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Kia has just unveiled five custom vehicles which take their inspiration from the DC Comics classic, the Justice League, at the 2012 SEMA Show.

The five vehicles on display at Kia are the Optima, Rio, Soul, Forte Koup, and Forte hatch. Each one takes on a different persona, either Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, The Green Lantern, or Cyborg. This collaboration between Kia and DC Comics was put together to raise awareness for the “We Can be Heroes” charity, that helps fight hunger in Africa.

Each car character/combination was chosen based on the main attributes of whatever the vehicle is. First is the Flash themed Forte Koup, which is meant to be fast, like the Flash. Built by West Coast Customs, the Flash Forte Koup receives a red, orange and yellow paint job, 20-inch wheels, a hood-painted Flash logo, and two big subwoofers in the trunk.

Next is the Aquaman Rio, which was also built by West Coast Customs. It gets a green and gold paint job complete with fake scales, and Aquaman’s metal belt. The interior gets green leather and suede, accented by yellow and gold. As a finishing touch, an actual comic strip was etched into the rear window.

The Green Lantern Soul was built by Super Street magazine, and gets a green and black paint job and green mirror-chrome tint on the windows. The car was lowered and the wheel wells were widened to give a more aggressive stance, and the back doors were welded shut to further streamline the car.

Cyborg takes shape in the form of the Forte five door, outfitted with a large hood scoop, and wide and low body kit. The paint job is all silver to represent Cyborg’s armor, and the interior is finished in red and silver trim.

Car Maintenance Tip of the Week

Keys
Does your car key share a chain with a dozen or more other keys? That’s a pretty heavy load hanging off the car key when it’s in the ignition. The weight, combined with bouncing while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure. To add years of service to your ignition switch, purchase a lightweight key chain that allows you to separate your ignition key from the others. Drive with only the ignition key in your ignition. If your ignition key “sticks” when you try to turn on the car, it’s a warning that your ignition switch is about to fail. Replace it before you get stranded.

Kia Grabs Brass Ring At Madison Square Garden

Kia-basketball-b

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Kia Motors America is extending and expanding its deal with Madison Square Garden, wherein Kia becomes a signature partner and official vehicle of the venue. The new partnership should give Kia some of what it has needed for years: awareness, affinity and positive brand perception.

The deal gives Kia a big placement at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, tie-ins with the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and the New York Liberty, and presence around college basketball and tennis, as well as the Concert Series at The Garden. The partnership also includes an expanded presence for Kia on MSG regional sports networks, MSG and MSG+, and integration on the Garden, Knicks, Rangers and Liberty websites. Also, Kia vehicles will be on show year-round with a custom-built display space in the lobby entrance to the Arena.

Kia's Official Vehicle designation will include branding at the Arena for all associated sports events and the Concert Series. Kia gets digital and static signage throughout the Arena; features on GardenVision, the center-hung scoreboard; and on-court and on-ice branding and promotional contests. Kia will be there for the Concert Series that includes Madonna, Justin Bieber, One Direction, The Who and Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Kia will have a presence at all Friday night Knicks and Rangers games as the presenting partner.

Tim Chaney, executive director of marketing communications at Kia, points out that the automaker is not new to the Garden as it has had a seven-year relationship with the Knicks plus sponsorship of the the Rangers NHL team, activated with the New York Kia dealer group. "But this is the whole building all year long for multiple years." Beyond this, Kia is official vehicle of the NBA, and also has separate, individual sponsorship deals with 14 NBA teams. "But this really is the first of this scale for us; being a signature partner gives us exclusivity to select categories," says. He tells Marketing Daily that New York, media central, is the place to have this kind of deal. "And if you are going to have a presence in New York, this is the property to do. He adds that the Garden's multi-year, billion-dollar investment in facility renovation also works as a complement to Kia's own packed vehicle-launch schedule. "We looked at it simply: transformed Kia at the transformed Garden."

There's also a CRM element with Kia customers getting access and experiences with MSG's sports brands and events. The automaker says it will collaborate with the Knicks and Rangers on a number of promotions and events also for Kia customers. Some of the offers include tickets and special experiences at games. As the official vehicle of the Concert Series at The Garden, Kia will also work with MSG on promotions for select concerts.

Dave Kissel, president and CEO of Chicago-based sports-event media network InStadium, says the virtue of a major sponsorship deal like Kia's is that, among other things, it locks out the competition against an audience a marketer determines to be spot-on for its brand. "But even for the most well-funded brands you can't lock up everything. So even the big guys have to be careful about how and where and when they spend money on sponsorships. But, clearly, sponsorship does work as part of the overall media mix. It's a $23 billion market; clearly, it works."

Indeed, Kia is not the lone auto brand with category-exclusivity in the Big Apple: across the East River, Honda in August became the 10th brand to hitch its star to the new Barclay's Center as a top-tier sponsor, becoming official vehicle of both the Brooklyn Nets and the arena itself. Among other things, Honda will sponsor the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival in December.

Proper Tire Inflation and Rotation
Tires leak naturally and need the occasional check. Figuratively speaking, underinflated tires suck up gasoline. Under- or overinflated tires wear out sooner, and deliver the same emergency maneuver handling as marshmallows. You probably aren't going to check tire pressures monthly, but how about twice a year?

Furthermore, front and rear tires wear differently and should be rotated to even that wear. Your owner's manual will have a recommendation on both pressure and rotation periods.

Batman-Themed 2013 Kia Optima SX Limited Unveiled

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Batmobile
Kia has taken the wraps off of the Batman-themed 2013 Kia Optima SX Limited, the first of eight Justice League vehicles it is building with comic book publisher DC Entertainment and Rides magazine.

The Korean Batmobile gets a custom front grille shaped like a bat wing.

Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg will be matched to other Kias in the coming months.

Customization of the Kia Batmobile starts with the exterior of the turbo sedan being outfitted in a mix of matte and piano black paint, and continues with a coil-over kit, body kit, exhaust system and 20-inch blacked-out wheels with Batman center caps. Other details include yellow underbody lighting and a Bat signal etched into the HID headlights.

The interior gets black leather-and-suede upholstery with yellow accent stitching, a center console with "utility throwing stars" as well as a Bat suit for crime-fighting purposes in the trunk.

Kia, DC and Rides will release customization packages based on other Justice League members in the next few months. Some of the featured superheroes are Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg, and Kia says the Soul, Sorento, Sportage, Rio and Forte will be some of the models outfitted for the next projects.

The partnership is raising awareness of DC Entertainment's "We Can Be Heroes" giving campaign that fights hunger in the Horn of Africa. Each car will eventually be auctioned off to raise money for the cause.

Tighten Your Gas Cap

Kia Introduces New Pro_cee’d and Carens for Other Markets [2012 Paris Auto Show]

Kia-proceed-placement-626x382

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

The night before the Paris auto show opened, the media assembled at the Pavillons de Bercy to witness the launch of the new Kia pro_cee’d and the Carens. The Pro_cee’d is a coupe-like, three-door derivative of the Cee’d compact. Far from being an entry-level car with two fewer doors, the Pro_cee’d is styled very differently from its five-door sibling, and it serves as a credible, sporty extension of the Kia portfolio. This will ring most true when its sees a 1.6-liter, gas-fired turbo four on its options sheet, which we hear could happen as early as next year. We have the Forte Koup in the US, so it remains unlikely that the Pro_cee’d will reach North American shores.

Kia also launched the Carens, whose predecessor was a sister model to the practical but very-dead Rondo. The new car is spacious and beautifully designed, with an interior that is clean and symmetrical. Don’t hold your breath for a Rondo redux: A spokesman tells us that this car will not reach the U.S. market.

2013 Kia Soul - A Surprisingly Versatile Vehicle

2013-kia-soul-front-three-quarter-ballerinas-623x389

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

If you are a young professional searching for a reliable new vehicle on a budget the world is not necessarily your oyster. While you may not be able to drive around in luxury car models such as Audi, Lexus, and Acura to name a few you can have a lot of the luxury features such as Bluetooth wireless communications to your media, a sunroof, and fog lights for under twenty thousand dollars.

There are a lot of good lease deals that run year round however there is an auto maker that has something to suit all needs if you are willing to fall for its unique styling and hamster mascot. I am of course speaking about the 2013 Kia Soul + model. The Kia Soul is a spunky, economy box. While its looks may take time to enjoy it is not without its uses. The boxy look is practical, larger adults can sit in the rear and front seats without issues with head or leg room. There is a lot of room for cargo and you can easily fold the seats down with the flick of a button they call them 60/40 fold flat seats.

The Kia Soul comes with a lot of feature standard that will cost a lot more if you went with another manufacture. These features include standard Bluetooth, UVO interactive infotainment system, three months of Sirius/XM Satellite radio, and plenty of storage compartments. There is a center storage arm rest, two large cup holders in the center and on each of the doors, there is a very deep glove box with 2 levels, there is a deep center box below the center speaker on the front dash, it is good for a wallet, or sunglasses anything that could fit in your hand. The Kia Soul comes standard with AUX and iPod jacks as well as two 12v front power outlets and one rear 12v power outlet.

The standard features alone were enough for me to give Kia my attention. Until 2012 I had always driven a Ford vehicle. Most recently I was driving a 2005 Ford Focus a base model without any bells and whistles. The time came for me to look into new cars. I was very impressed by Kia they used to be a subpar car company overall. I would not be alone in making that assessment that they used to be shoddy cars, however now they have improved their overall quality and perhaps this is due to advancements in technology or a partnership with Hyundai Motors.

I was impressed by how much you could get for fewer than twenty thousand dollars. With a down payment of around three thousand dollars you will assume about $212/mo to lease this type of Kia Soul if you are looking at the (+) model and add the premium sound and sunroof/fog light package. The package is well worth it the speakers are amazing the bass is deep; infinity is the name of the company who does the sound. The UVO system works well but it does take some getting used to, you can voice command a hands free phone call, Sirius channels, Radio stations, or explore your usb device. There is a center touch screen and with it you set your favorite stations or adjust settings. You can load music straight to the car it comes with a Hard Drive. You can upload from a USB stick or with a CD that you have MP3's on. It is a nice added bonus that I did not know at first.

The car shifts well it has two drive modes. You can drive in an Eco mode which gives optimizes output but muting the throttle which adds about one mpg in the city and one on the highway. The standard mode utilizes the 6 speed in line four cylinder engine. You can chose a power shift + and - stick to up and down shift through the gears, if you forget to down shift the car will do it for you or you can simply drive as a normal automatic vehicle. Kia offers standard stability and traction control with this vehicle. The ride height is welcomed and while the car does feel light it is balanced and maneuvers very well in traffic. The added insulation does well to dampen outside noise and winds at highway speeds. The interior materials have great feel to the touch they are of good quality. I average about 29 mpg overall. It is suggested you should get 27/35 mpg. This is a fun car to drive and one that you should test drive to see how much you enjoy it. There are two large pillars in the rear but any experienced driver shouldn't have a problem as this has been a design feature on cars for many years. The speed is great and the large windows provide great visibility.

I have never owned a Kia and I am leasing this 2013 Kia Soul. I have had it about a month know and love it. I enjoy all the standard features, the fuel efficiency the modern technology and the price point. It is really a car that delivers regardless of what you are looking for in a vehicle. It gets me around, it can haul five full sized American adults and I can also haul a lot of cargo which is important for shopping, moving, and getting supplies for my home office. I never thought the hamster car with the light up front speakers would win me over, but once I test drove it and did my homework I truly did fall in love with the Kia Soul (+).

2013 Kia Sportage Review

2013-kia-sportage

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

In evolutionary terms, the 2013 Kia Sportage is as far removed from the original 1993 Sportage as we are from our Neanderthal cousins. No longer a rugged off-road SUV, the current Sportage rides atop a car platform, has a sophisticated engine and suspension setup and is loaded with safety and creature comforts more common to luxury cars than compact SUVs. Competing against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4, the 2013 Kia Sportage sets itself apart in the areas of styling, ride and handling and price. The Sportage's one-upmanship continues with an available 260-horsepower turbocharged engine and one of the best standard warranties in the business, covering the powertrain for 10 years/100,000 miles.

You'll Like This Car If...
If you need the all-wheel-drive capability and high ground clearance of a compact SUV, but you don't want to give up sporty handling or head-turning good looks, we think the 2013 Kia Sportage is definitely in your league. Its available 260-horsepower turbocharged engine is a rarity in this segment.

You May Not Like This Car If...
If maximum interior space, a smooth ride and good 360-degree visibility are important factors in your car-buying decision, the 2013 Kia Sportage probably won't float your boat. Best look to a Subaru Forester or Honda CR-V.

What's New for 2013
Changes to the 2013 Kia Sportage include LED accent lighting on LX and EX trims, standard power-folding side mirrors on the SX (optional on EX) and a new Blue Interior Package (Blue seating and inserts). The UVO infotainment system is added to the LX Convenience Package.

Driving It
Driving Impressions
The 2013 Kia Sportage's taut suspension and powerful engine choices put the "sport" in Sport Utility Vehicle. Compared with its nearest competitors, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the 2013 Kia Sportage SUV rides a bit stiffer, but delivers better cornering and recovery from sharp dips in the road. The taut suspension delivers predictable response to rapid inputs and quick adjustments and the nicely-weighted steering wheel helps minimize the amount of play in the steering. The 2.4-liter and 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines both offer ample power in any driving situation, with our favorite being the turbocharged version in the Sportage SX. The 2.4-liter is more than capable in climbing steep hills and handling quick passing maneuvers, but the turbocharged 2.0-liter adds a new level of driving fun. The 2.0-liter turbo also feature gasoline direct injection technology that helps it attain excellent fuel economy without sacrificing power.

Favorite Features
PANORAMIC SUNROOF
More sun equates to more fun and this dual-section sunroof lets the rear-seat occupants stare at the wonders above.

2.0-LITER TURBOCHARGED ENGINE
Found in the 2013 Kia Sportage SX, the 260-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine makes the car surprisingly quick and a lot more fun to drive.

Vehicle Details
Interior

Functionally, there is much to like inside the 2013 Kia Sportage SUV, with a big, roomy rear seat that can be folded flat to make a modestly-roomy 54.6 cubic-foot cargo hold. While useful, the Sportage's cargo bay is not quite as large as those in the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4, both of which offer more than 70 cubic feet of cargo space. EX trims feature special anti-bacterial cloth that helps eliminate odors and stains that can accumulate over time. We like a number of the Sportage's interior options, but the panoramic sunroof's manual sunshades don't strike us as very useful and should be power operated.

Exterior

The 2013 Kia Sportage SUV's sleek design includes sharp lines, narrow side glass and Kia's signature "tab" front grille. The clever interplay between the dark lines surrounding the grille, lower air ducts and painted wheel inserts gives the Sportage a keenly sinister appearance. The Sportage's high beltline and big wheel-and-tire combo make it look a bit like a hopped-up VW GTI. Don't be fooled by the Sportage's sporty appearance, however, as its available all-wheel drive (AWD) and nearly seven inches of ground clearance make it a capable compact SUV.

Notable Standard Equipment
Kia's Sportage SUV for 2013 is offered in four front-wheel-drive trim levels: Base, LX, EX and SX, with AWD available on all but the Base. Standard equipment across all trim levels includes air conditioning, power accessories, Bluetooth, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, a rear under-floor storage compartment and a satellite-radio-equipped audio system with four speakers. Some notable standard features that come with the EX and SX trims include Kia's UVO infotainment system, back-up warning system, push-button start, a cooling glovebox and automatic climate control.

Notable Optional Equipment
All of the options available for the 2013 Kia Sportage come in the forms of packages. Some noteworthy highlights of the Sportage option packages include a navigation system, heated front seats, a cooled driver's seat, a panoramic sunroof and a premium audio system with a subwoofer.

Under the Hood
The 2013 Kia Sportage SUV's 2.4-liter engine is robust and fuel-efficient and should suffice for most drivers' needs. Costing a bit more is the turbocharged 2.0-liter, which provides V6-like power and 4-cylinder fuel economy. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, which delivers impressive fuel-economy numbers and can be shifted manually. A 6-speed manual transmission is available, but only on the base trim level.

2.4-liter inline-4
176 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm
168 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 21/29 mpg (front-wheel drive, manual), 22/32 mpg (front-wheel drive, automatic), 21/28 mpg (AWD, automatic)

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4
260 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm
269 lb-ft of torque @ 1,850 - 3,000 rpm
EPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/29 mpg (front-wheel drive), 21/26 mpg (AWD)

Pricing Notes
The 2013 Kia Sportage SUV comes with a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting just under $20,000. Stepping up to the LX trim level takes it to about $22,000, with the EX trim coming in right around $25,000. The turbocharged SX trim starts just under $28,000 but, when it's topped with every option, that price can creep past $32,000. A look at the Fair Purchase Price on kbb.com shows what others are paying for the Kia Sportage in your area, so be sure to check it out before you buy. As for residuals, we expect that the Kia Sportage won't hold its value as well as the Honda CR-V, should remain on par with the Chevy Equinox and Toyota RAV4 and will be better than the Nissan Rogue, Jeep Compass and VW Tiguan.

The 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX M/T

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

New_kia_logo
Only 500 units of the 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX 6 speed will be made for the US Market. That means that only a few models will be available at showrooms once they are released. With a base price of $17,900 these examples are sure to fly out of dealerships as soon as they come in.The Rio SX M/T is inspired by Kia's involvement in motorsports and their involvement in B-Spec racing.  B spec racing came about when Honda and Mazda along with race sanctioned bodies like NASA and SCCA decided to introduce low-cost showroom stock race series for budget-conscious enthusiasts.

The 2013 Kia Rio 5 door SX M/T is powered by a 138 HP 4 cylinder direct injection engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing. Two color choices come in Signal Red and Electronic Blue. Outside you’ll find the distinctive tiger nose design up front with an aggressive stance for a small car. 17 inch alloys come standard along with 7 inch touch screen navigation, sport tuned suspension, rear camera display and a minimalistic black interior trim.

Although only 500 units will be produced, it’s a good sign from a company who decides to listen to the desires of its customer base. And with Kia going starting its racing heritage, only good things can trickle down from lessons learned on the track. And if you even considered going B-Spec racing yourself, for an additional $14,000, Kinetic Motorsports based out of Georgia offers complete kits including pre-cut roll cages, racing harness, racing suspensions, along with all the other safety bits to keep you safe and secure under speed.
