2014 Kia Forte Teased Ahead of 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

The current Kia Forte, known as the Cerato in other markets, is a pleasantly styled and attractively priced alternative to the likes of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in the compact segment. Penned in Kia’s California design studio, the current Forte first launched in sedan trim as a 2010 model and was later joined by newcoupe and hatchback bodystyles.

While not unattractive, the current Forte lacks the design flair of the newer Kia Optima or even its C’eed cousin sold overseas, which doesn’t help the Korean compact stand out in its class.

The car you see here is the all-new 2014 Kia Forte, in its sedan bodystyle, which is set to make its official world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show in November before going on sale shortly after.

You can really see the resemblance in the front end, as the new Forte embraces Kia's bolder winged grille and aggressive character line design motifs. The lower valence looks familiar, too, with the same exaggerated openings for fog lights.

Charged with penning the rather stylish look is Kia design boss Peter Schreyer, who has introduced a much more premium look to Kia’s lineup, with his most recent design being the K9 (recently renamed Quoris) flagship sedan.  

The 2014 Forte is said to be longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model, which should promise more space inside, and will once again come in the choice of sedan, coupe and hatch bodystyles.

The current Forte features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivering fuel economy as high as 27/36 mpg city/highway. We suspect a drivetrain with similar specifications will be offered in the new generation.

The Forte is one of Kia’s most important models. With sales of 445,000 units worldwide in 2011, the compact car is Kia’s most popular model and by the looks of this new generation should continue that tradition.

Official: Kia K9 Flagship Sedan Named “Quoris” for Global Markets

Kia has just announced the new K9 flagship sedan will go on sale in select countries later this year, but it won’t be known as the K9 once it leaves Korea’s shores. The rear-drive luxury car has been renamed the Quoris for global markets.

Kia says the Quoris name is derived from the English words “core” and “quality.” The K9 officially launched in Korea a few months ago, looking much larger and more upscale than any Kia we’ve seen here before. Falling in length between the Hyundai Genesis sedan and the Equus, the rear-drive sedan wears Kia’s signature tiger nose and headlights accented with LED lights. The Quoris’ profile is decorated with side vents, while its rear looks similar to that of the BMW 7 Series.

Under the hood, it packs a 286-hp Lambda V-6, though another 329-hp 3.8-liter V-6 is expected to launch later on. Both engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. While the Kia Quoris is based on the Genesis sedan, it’s about as luxurious as the Equus, with features including a an advanced blind spot monitoring system, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control that can come to a complete stop, and a premium rear-seat package with heated and ventilated seats and a reclining backrest.

Though the luxury sedan was recently spotted on American soil, Kia still isn’t saying anything about whether it will offer the Quoris in the States.

Kia’s Global Sales Up 12.3% in June

Kia’s global sales of commercial vehicles, recreational vehicles and passenger cars in June increased 12.3% to 242,790 units.

In general markets sales increased 9.8% to 47,875 units, in Korea sales were down 0.2% to 42,111 units, in North America sales increased 13.4% to 59,108 units, in Europe sales were up 24.4% to 55,248 units and in China sales increased by 13.9% to 38,448 vehicles. In June Kia sold 30,789 C-segment Cerato, 43,016 B-segment Rio, 19,527 Sorento mid-size CUV, 31,497 Sportage compact CUV and 22,546 D-segment Optima sedans.

Tae-Hyun (Thomas) Oh, Kia Motors executive vice president and COO, declared that the car maker is pleased to report strong double-digit cumulative growth in the first half of 2012 in some of the world’s major auto markets, such as North America, China and Europe.

“Given that our new product launch schedule for overseas markets is very much weighted toward the second half of the year - including our new flagship sedan and refreshed Sorento CUV - we look forward to the challenge of maintaining our global sales growth momentum throughout the remainder of 2012,” Oh said.
