We received a 5-star review on Yelp!

"I have to write this review because I am indebted to Kia of Downtown LA. I am especially thankful to ELOY ANGEL. I was looking to purchase a Kia Rio LX, for the least amount of money.  I contacted several other Kia dealers in my area (Riverside, CA) to no avail.  We visited the Kia dealer in Perris, CA and the sales guy was a straight snake. On the other hand, Eloy of Downtown LA Kia (in internet sales) was very informative, honest, and provided me all the required information upfront.  He provided me pricing, interest rate, monthly payments upfront.  There were no surprises.

We corresponded via email. He promptly responded to my emails.  I felt no dishonesty or pure pressure coming from Eloy. No other dealer could match the pricing and sincerity that I obtained from Eloy & Chris (Mgr.) While there, Eloy spent quite a while explaining the features of our car and how they work, down to programming your radio stations.  Who else would do this? I felt very comfortable with him and I will definitely contact him for future purchases.  If you are looking to purchase a Kia, Eloy is your guy!!! His NO-PRESSURE, HONESTY, tactics will win you over.

I highly recommend this dealership and their internet sales staff (Chris & Eloy).  It is worth the drive!!!" -- Edith M.

We received a 5-star review on Yelp!

"Great dealership. The customer service was excellent. I went in knowing what I wanted and how the process works. I told them not to haggle me and they didnt. I got a great deal on my new Forte. Finance was very professional and not pushy. The service department, Ara, has been a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend KIA of Downtown LA." -- Fred A.

Kia Quoris Flagship Sedan Coming To U.S. In 2014: Report

Speaking with Kia officials at the recent launch of the 2014 Kia Cadenza, website Automotive learned that the Quoris would go on sale in the U.S. “next year.” This suggests that we’re likely to see it list as a 2015 model.

The Quoris was first launched in Kia’s home market of Korea in 2012, where it is known as a K9.
Here in the U.S. it is expected to receive a different name altogether, along with some unique styling treatments. Versions of the car with camouflage gear over their bumpers have been spotted testing on U.S. soil.

The Quoris shares a rear-wheel-drive platform with the Hyundai Equus and its size and proportions also match up with the Hyundai flagship. To differentiate it from its corporate sibling, the Quoris forgoes a V-8 and relies instead on a 3.8-liter V-6 rated at 285 horsepower.

A direct-injected version of this engine with 330 horsepower on tap is expected to be fitted to models sold in the U.S. An eight-speed automatic will be the standard transmission.

Depending on trim level, available features on the Quoris include adaptive all-LED headlights, lane-departure and blind-sport warning systems, active cruise control and a camera-based around-view monitor. Other features, either available or standard, include a 12.3-inch central display, a head-up display, twin 9.2-inch monitors to entertain rear seat occupants and a 17-speaker Lexicon (by Harman) sound system.

As for pricing, expect it to start slightly below the $59,250 starting price of the Hyundai Equus.

We received TWO 5-star reviews on Yelp

"I am so HAPPY I chose Kia of Downtown Los Angeles for my recent vehicle purchase! Maya was so helpful and she made the process very simple. I would highly recommend this dealership to anyone who is looking to purchase a new car. They really care about each person's individual needs." -- Sam S.

"Have to say this place is great! I was on the fence about buying a Kia car but wanted to get more details so I took a trip to the dowtown location. I actually found the downtown location to be stocked with tons of cars but not too busy and over run with tons of people.  I worked with a sales man named Miles (very laid back yet professional) and after he showed me my options and financing available I was sold. Great value and selection. It was between the Kia Optima or Forte .Service was top notch.  Ask for Miles and get your new car! Kia Optima is the best by the way!" -- Kara K.

Kia’s family hauler now has upscale features

There’s progress in the $21,695 base Rondo, the LX, as well.

The visual appeal of the improved quality material topping the dash takes this Rondo beyond the old. The interior hush at highway speeds, the solid crunch of the doors closing, both impress the ear. Even the stitching in the LX’s cloth door panels appears to be the stuff of pricier cars.

Whether at the top of the range or the bottom, the new car is a rich ride at a reasonable price. And the lumpy looks of the earlier Rondo are gone: the new Rondo is lower and wider than the category stalwart, Mazda5, with crisp lines and artfully shaped side glass.

As with its predecessor, the 2014 Rondo is sold with seating for five or seven. The $21,695 model is a five-seater with a manual transmission. All seven-seaters are automatics; the LX with seven sells for $25,195 and this is the model Kia Canada anticipates to account for 37 per cent of sales.
Our six hours of drive time – on a route meandering between Galveston and Houston – are split between an EX seven-seater, $28,195, and the top-of-the-line EX Luxury, also for seven (but note that only the driver scores the ventilating seat).

All models drive much the same. The differences within the $8,000-plus price range covering all those Rondos with automatics are in their multitudes of features, rather than performance. The same engine, automatic transmission and suspension are used throughout.

The four-cylinder is smaller than before – the V-6 is no longer available – but Kia makes the point the new engine’s direct gas injection gives it almost as much power as the previous one while improving fuel consumption. The new six-speed automatic also contributes to fuel efficiency and near-silent operation at cruising speed.

Too bad acceleration is slow and the engine screams in protest when you squeeze the gas pedal. Rondo is right for those of us who are content with slow and steady cruising, but the lack of throttle response will eliminate it from some shopping lists.

Really, with this car, it’s all about accommodations. Start with the front: we were as impressed with the cloth-covered seats and all-black base interior in the $21,695 LX, in which we rode from the Houston airport to Galveston, as with the leather and two-tone trim of the EX Luxury on the drive out of Galveston the next day.

Kia’s target for seat comfort was the Volkswagen Tiguan, a compliment to VW’s generally superior seating. The Rondo’s front seats are indeed more supportive than most – though those occupying the passenger side in the EX Luxury will resent the fact the driver’s seat has power adjustment including lumbar support, heating and ventilating, while they’re stuck with limited manual adjustment and heat.
Rear passenger comfort depends on whether two or three rows of seats are in place. With just one row in place, in the five-seater configuration, there’s adequate room for three although foot room is pinched under the front seats.

With the rear bench pulled up out of the cargo floor for seating for seven, things get tighter. The normal back seat needs to slide forward to provide usable leg-room for the pull-up two-seater. The reality is the Rondo’s compact exterior dimensions compromise legroom throughout the vehicle when seven persons squeeze in. The fold-up back bench is for kids, the smaller the better for all concerned. Access is challenging for adults, and facilitated only on the curb side.

Kia brags about storage spaces. There are 14: the underfloor trays ahead of the rear seats are the best example of the unexpected. Count the features as well, a major selling point for all Kia and Hyundai models. The base Rondo comes with air conditioning, keyless entry, power windows, heated front seats and six-speaker audio with voice recognition and Bluetooth. USB and iPod connections are provided.

The $26,995 EX adds such niceties as a heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, leather upholstery and rear-door pull-up mesh curtains of the sort associated with German luxury cars. A rear-view camera is provided, with an eight-inch navigation screen. The $32,195 EX Luxury heats the rear seats as well as the front, takes care of the navigation, replaces the hand brake handle with electronic control, ventilates the driver. There’s more: panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking warning, but let’s leave the full recital for Kia salespeople.

A provocative notion comes to mind as a result of driving a Mercedes-Benz B200 almost daily in Toronto and stepping in to a Rondo in Houston, how these two angular-but-boxy hatchbacks really are eerily similar despite being perceived as different.

As premium brands like Benz and one-time economy car specialists like Kia increasingly bring to market models that are a close match in price, shape and purpose, cross-shopping is becoming a sprawling bazaar, unimaginable even five years ago.

This is not to say that Kia is set to duke it out with German luxury makers. But recognize it’s getting closer. The 2014 Rondo cannot challenge the current Benz B250, falling far short in power, but its performance is on par with the original B-Class (2008-2012) with the base model engine that I purchased for EX Luxury money. The Kia’s interior is richer, more attractive. The warranty is superior, at five years against three years for the Benz.

The new Rondo looks as stylish as any European – as have all Kias introduced since design chief Peter Schreyer was hired away from Volkswagen in 2006. He’d been head of design at Audi as it began its rise.

Kia’s rise is under way. The question now, is how much further it can become.

2014 Kia Cadenza

Just about every automaker that established its reputation with value-priced vehicles has expanded into the premium-sedan realm lately. Kia, one of two South Korean companies that market cars in the U.S., is the latest to make that move, with the 2014 Cadenza.

This isn't the first time Kia has reached beyond the compact/midsize sedan market, having introduced the larger Amanti for the 2004 model year. That one lasted into 2009, but no successor was launched.

Kia claims that the 2014 Cadenza "represents the most technologically-advanced [model] ever offered in the U.S. market." Standard and available features include Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, and a Lane-Departure Warning System. Ready for sale by May 2013, the Cadenza also promises "stunning European-inspired design," according to Kia's marketers.

Power comes from a 3.3-liter V-6 engine that develops 293 horsepower at 6400 rpm, and 255 pound-feet of torque at 5200 rpm. Only one transmission is available: a six-speed automatic with Sportmatic control. As for fuel economy, the Cadenza gets an estimate of 19 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.

Measuring 195.5 inches long overall, the Cadenza rides a 112-inch wheelbase and stands 58.1 inches tall. Either 18- or 19-inch tires may be mounted.

Sticker price for the Cadenza is $35,800 (including the $800 destination charge). Luxury and Technology Packages are available, each priced at $3,000.

2014 Sedona returns to the Kia lineup

Available in two trims, LX and EX, the 2014 Sedona is basically carryover with a few enhancements. A redesigned front bumper and grille, LED running lights, 17-inch multi-spoke wheels, and standard fog lamps give it an up to date appearance.

All interiors now feature a unique storage console for iPads and smart tablets, while the EX cabin offers standard leather trimmed seats, front seat heaters and automatic climate control.
Sedona's 3.5-liter V6 engine is standard on all models. It produces an impressive 269 horsepower with 246 lb.-ft. of torque and gets fuel economy of 17/24 mpg, made possible in part by the six-speed automatic transmission.

Sedona's four-wheel independent suspension consists of MacPherson struts with coil springs and a stabilizer bar in the front, while the rear uses a multi-link design with coil springs and a stabilizer bar. It’s carried over from the previous model, so you can expect a nice balance between good ride quality and decent handling characteristics.

Stopping power comes from a power-assisted four-wheel-disc ABS braking system with large-diameter vented front disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes. Sedona models come standard with 16-inch steel wheels and 225/70R16 tires on LX models, with optional 17-inch alloy wheels. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/60R17 tires are standard on EX models.
Inside, Sedona has generous and versatile passenger and luggage space. Flip-and-fold second row seats provide easy access to third row seating. A simple-to-operate 60/40-split, folding-into-the-floor third row seat is standard on all models to create a flat cargo area.

Kia is known for offering a generous list of standard features and amenities. In addition to the standard SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetoothwireless technology and a six-speed Sportmatic transmission, the LX trim also comes standard with air conditioning, sliding doors with power windows, power mirrors and door locks, cruise control, an AM/FM/CD/MP3/Sat audio system that includes an auxiliary and USB-MP3 input jack, captain's chairs for the second row and keyless entry and a back-up warning system.

Moving to the EX trim adds leather trimmed seats, fog lamps, a heated six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, four-way power-adjustable passenger's seat, heated power mirrors, an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack, auto-dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power rear-quarter glass, trip computer with compass and a roof rack. The EX trim also offers a standard rear-view-mirror camera display in addition to the back-up warning system.

Sedona offers several optional packages:
The Power Package, available only on LX models, offers dual power sliding doors, automatic light control, 17-inch alloy wheels and auto-diming mirror with backup display and HomeLink.
The Luxury Package, available on EX models, includes power sunroof, automatic rain sensing wipers, power-adjustable pedals, driver's memory seat and mirrors.
A navigation system also is available for the EX trim, which includes Infinity premium audio and speakers.

Sedona has an extensive list of standard safety features, including six standard airbags (dual advanced front and front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain air bags for all three seating rows); active front headrests; and a four-channel, four-sensor antilock brake system with electronic brake force distribution. Additional standard safety equipment for Sedona includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Stability Control and a Traction Control System.
Prices for the 2014 Sedona have not been announced, but are not expected to increase significantly. Prices will be included here when available.

Monday Maintenance Tip!

Maybe the manufacturer says your battery is maintenance free, but don’t you believe it! Check your battery regularly to extend its life and avoid the hassle of being stranded with a dead battery.
  • Begin with the simple: keeping your battery clean. A dirty case can actually cause current to drain. Wipe with a damp rag. Use a mild detergent if necessary.
  • Next, clean the battery posts or terminals. Loosen and remove the negative cable (black or minus sign) first, then the red positive cable. Use a brass wire battery brush dipped in a paste made from a few tablespoons of baking soda and a little water.
  • Inspect the battery case for damage, such as cracks or bulges — signs that a battery needs to be replaced.
  • Reinstall the cables, positive first, and coat the terminals and clamps with a thin coating of grease to prevent new corrosion.
